It's here! Starting on August 27, 2020, Amazon launched an all-new Audible plan. Instead of the previous Audible Gold and Audible Platinum subscriptions, Amazon now has Audible Plus and Audible Premium Plus plans. They are also creating a more robust catalog of readily accessible content, including select audiobooks, Audible Originals, podcasts, and more.
Audible Plus is a more budget-friendly subscription, at a more affordable price of $7.95 per month.
What You Get With Audible Plus
Users will get access to the new Audible Plus Catalog, which includes Audible-exclusive audiobooks, select audiobooks, podcasts, Audible Originals, audio dramas, and more for no additional cost. This is over 68,000 hours of content and over 11,000 titles to choose from, with more in the works. Bonus, this will all be ad-free.
What You Don't Get With Audible Plus
The entry-level Audible Plus does not include the audiobook credits that Amazon has previously offered with their Audible Gold and Platinum memberships. If Audible Plus members want to listen to audiobooks outside the Plus Catalog, they will need to make separate purchases. However, Amazon now includes a lot more content with no additional cost. It is now more like Kindle Unlimited. The titles included in the catalog will rotate and new titles will be added every week. Amazon will notify you if any of the titles you have selected will need to be removed. Just make sure you look for the INCLUDED tag when you are considering books to listen to.
Audible Plus, also, does not include any exclusive discounts that customers have seen in the past. This includes the 30% off list price of aubiobooks and any exclusive sales.
Audible Premium Plus
Even though Amazon has consolidated the names of their previous Audible plans into one name, Audible Premium Plus, there are still two versions of this plan. The current $14.95 plan, which is roughly equivalent to the previous Audible Gold plan, and the $22.95 plan which is akin to the previous Audible Platinum plan. Previous customers of Audible do not need to be concerned that their plan has changed. All that has changed is the name.
What You Get With Audible Premium Plus
Members of the Audible Premium Plus will get access to the Audible Plus Catalog, as well as, credits that are good for any book regardless of cost. Users who pay $14.95 per month will get one credit a month. Those paying $22.95 per month will get two credits each month. On top of these perks, Premium Plus users will get 30% off the list price of audiobooks and access to exclusive sales. Make sure you watch out for these sales because you can get audiobooks for as little as $5.
If you are like me and have sat on the fence about purchasing Audible because it was too expensive, these new changes Amazon has implemented may be just what you were looking for. Even better, Amazon offers a 30-day free trial where you can get a free audiobook (Amazon Prime members get two free books). This will give you the chance to decide whether the Audible Plus Catalog is enough to justify the $7.95 cost or not,. If you like Audible and want to upgrade so you can get the credits, you can change your subscriptions at any time. You can also cancel at any time if you are not satisfied. The free audiobooks you received with the trial will remain yours even if you cancel. However, I am sure once you have given Audible a try you won't be disappointed.
As one long-time customer states, "As far as I'm concerned it is well worth it. I thoroughly enjoy Audible."
The plans Amazon has implemented are in a "preview" phase at this stage. Amazon encourages users to contact them with any questions or feedback so that they can make any necessary improvements.
